- Complete all courses that fulfill requirements in the minor with a grade C or higher
- Minimum 300-hour practicum/internship/volunteer at nonprofit organizations
- Attendance at a national career conference - the Alliance Management Institute (AMI) takes place each January and serves as a capstone experience for the students
- Leadership and service - students participate in a wide variety of activities that support classroom learning and prepare them for future leadership roles
An academic minor is an attribute of a baccalaureate degree, not an entity by itself, and can only be awarded at the same time a student graduates with a bachelor’s degree. Students must declare a minor prior to submitting a graduation application. A minor may not be added to a previously awarded degree. Students must complete the minor requirements prior to or concurrent with completion of their bachelor’s degree requirements. Minors are not available with associate’s degrees.
Students may not declare a minor that is in the same discipline as their major. Example: English majors cannot declare any English minor.
Integrated Studies majors may not have an academic minor in the same discipline as either of their two declared emphases. Example: An Integrated Studies major with emphases in English and Spanish cannot receive a minor in either English or Spanish.
NonProfit Management Program Learning Outcomes
At the successful conclusion of this program, students will be able to:
- Apply knowledge of cultural competency to inform and influence various constituencies.
- Evaluate the unique characteristics of the nonprofit sector and its management including control and transparency in financial resources.
- Develop a plan for a nonprofit organization that includes strategies for governance, leadership and advocacy as well as legal and ethical decision-making.
- Demonstrate the ability to research career opportunities, apply and interview for a job, and plan for continued professional development.
- Evaluate a human resource management plan that includes both volunteer and paid staff.
- Demonstrate the importance of continuous improvement, emerging trends and innovations, and the critical role research plays in shaping best practices.
